Four local charities have been presented with cheques totalling £19,700.00 by Basildon Mayor, Cllr Mo Larkin.
Prior to the recent Annual Meeting of Basildon Council, Cllr Larkin handed over cheques for £11,200 to St Luke’s Hospice, £4000 to Age Matters Basildon, £4000 to St Martin’s Church (Project 58:7) and £500 to Home-Start Basildon District.
The Mayor also announced she is supporting Cllr Malcolm Buckley's Neuro Appeal and money would also be going towards this cause.
Cllr Larkin said: “I am so pleased to be able to present these cheques to four worthwhile local charities who work tirelessly in the community to provide much needed services for residents.
“After more than 20 years of service, St Luke’s Hospice continues to care for residents with life threatening illnesses, and their families and Age Matters has been promoting the welfare of older people in the Basildon borough for nearly two decades.
“St Martin’s Church (Project 58:7) do a great job in helping needy residents while, Home-Start Basildon District has been recruiting and training local parent volunteers to provide friendship, emotional and practical support to Basildon parents within their own home, since it was launched in Basildon some 15 years ago.”
The monies were raised from fundraising activities for the Mayor’s charities over the past year, including the Mayor’s Charity Ball in February.
