Basildon based businesses are being invited to find out more about the forthcoming Olympic Torch Relay, and how it may affect them.
The breakfast meeting, due to take place from 8am – 9.30am on Tuesday 29 May is aimed at helping highlight the key issues that businesses could face when the torch visits the borough ahead of the games.
Councillor Tony Ball, Leader of Basildon Council said: “The Olympics will be a fantastic celebration of sport, and with the torch relay coming through Basildon this will mean the celebrations will be right on our doorstep.
However it is important to remember that this is going to have an impact on businesses, and we hope that this meeting will assist in providing information so that they can make the necessary continuity plans.”
The torch relay will run through the town on Friday July 6 and leaves the Basildon Sporting Village at approximately 4pm. It will see the northbound side of Uppermayne closed during the visit of the torch. A map detailing the route of the torch is available from www.basildon.gov.uk.
Any business interested in attending the free event, which is being held at the Holiday Inn at Basildon's Festival Leisure Park, should contact angela.savage@basildon.gov.uk or call 01268 294201 by Tuesday 22 May.
