A Pitsea Park is set to be renamed as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Howard Park in Pitsea will be known as ‘Howard Diamond Jubilee Park’ following the nations weekend of celebration.
Councillor Tony Ball, Leader of Basildon Council said: “Basildon has a tradition of marking royal milestones and this one is no different.
"In the past we have renamed a road, but on this occasion we wanted to mark the Jubilee by doing something a little bit different and renaming one of our Parks.
"Howard Park is a well known local park and seemed the ideal choice for this honour.”
Home to the Pitsea War Memorial, Howard Park was dedicated by the Howard family to the people of Pitsea in 1947.
The renaming is just one a number of celebrations taking place over the coming days.
Over 50 street parties are taking place across the borough, whilst beacons will be lit at Sun Corner in Billericay, Paddocks Community Hall in Laindon, the Village Green in Little Burstead and the Wickford Memorial Park in Wickford.
