THE popular Urban Games event will be returning to Basildon this May. Due to take place on Saturday 26 May, the free event will be held at the Basildon Sporting Village.
Running between 12pm and 4pm, the day will see a range of urban and street activities, music and sport, featuring everything from Free Running to Street Basketball skills.
Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Leisure and the Arts said: “The Urban Games has been a big hit across the County so we are looking forward to hosting it again in Basildon.
With the Jubilee, Play your Part Festival on the 24 May, and Olympic Torch Relay on 6 July this is another great way to get involved and be part of the celebrations.”
The event will see demonstrations, workshops and competitions taking place throughout the day. Basketball freestylers and Cheerleaders performances provided by Big Fen will take centre stage along with entertainment provided by BaldMc.
Delivered in partnership with Basildon Borough Council’s Positive Futures programme and Everyone Active, the event will see a number of local sports clubs supporting the event, including South East Essex Gymnastics Club who will be providing Free Running sessions and High Sports who are providing free taster climbing sessions.
Urban Games will also be hosting an event on Friday 17 August at Concord Skatepark Gloucester Park, which will see skate and BMX competitions and a host of live music provided by the Boom Room.
Residents of all ages are invited to come along to the free event and for more information visit www.basildon.gov.uk or call the Positive Futures Team on 01268 465447.
