Basildon Council’s tax hotline is set to change for the better.
From the Summer, a new 24 hour self service phone system will be put in place to deal with simple calls made to the billing team who currently receive up to 8000 calls a month.
The Inform 360 system will be a 24 hour automated system that can deal with a change of address, new applications, cancelling existing reductions and provide a wide variety of information on various Council tax topics.
The product will be implemented for all calls received on the Council Tax number 01268 294544 and will be piloted for one year and reviewed after six months.
Cllr Phil Turner, cabinet member for resources says: “We are constantly looking at ways in which we can innovate and improve our services for the local community.
“This new service will be available for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so residents with simple council tax enquiries or changes will be able to phone up at a time of their choosing, rather than having to wait until the offices open at 9am. This is very much part of adapting our customer services to fit in with the modern 24/7 world.
“Initially we expect that around half of the calls will be dealt with by this new self service system, but we think this could rise up to 90% as residents become more familiar and comfortable with the service.”
