A new three-year strategy to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough has been put in place by the Basildon Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
The new strategy outlines the CSP’s priorities for the next three years. These include reduce anti-social behaviour (ASB); reduce crime and re-offending; prevent and reduce alcohol and drug related crime and work with the local community to tackle crime and ASB.
The four priorities were developed following feedback from local residents on what they felt needed to be addressed along with analysis of community safety data and emerging crime trends.
Bala Mahendran, Chair of the CSP and Chief Executive of Basildon Council, said: “Community Safety Partnerships are facing extremely challenging times with diminished budgets and fewer resources. However despite this we are absolutely committed to partnership working to create safer communities and fewer victims of crime.
“This new strategy outlines how the Community Safety Partnership will work together over the next three years to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour. Basildon is a safe place to live and visit and we want to keep it that way.”
The CSP, which includes Basildon Council, Essex Police and other statutory agencies, will introduce new projects and initiatives to help address each of the four priorities. This includes the introduction of an Integrated Offender Management (IOM) framework which will support agencies in targeting the most prolific offenders in the community.
Superintendent Andy Prophet from Essex Police said: “To date we have made good progress in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and together we want to build on that.
“It is important, more now than ever, that we work together collectively by sharing resources and people to reduce crime and make a difference in the borough.”
